Hi I was just curious to know if anyone has tried to create from scratch or wrap one of the javascript application tour libraries.

Thanks,

Hi Mark, Matthew, Edmond,

we´re happy to announce that the first version of our TourPanel extension is available at https://www.wisej.com/Extensions

It would be great if you can give it a go and share your feedback and experiences with it.

Thanks in advance !

Best regards
Frank

Just for the records. Please note our extensive blog article about the TourPanel:

I tried the online demo but it appears broken if you do not let it autoplay. If you just click the start option – the next and back buttons do not work – especially if the forms are minimized.

Strange, I just tried it and the Next and Back buttons worked fine. Tried IE too. Doesn’t work on a second round if the forms are minimized, the app doesn’t normalize the form – it’s up to the tour step and I bet you that Frank didn’t anticipate a second run with minimized forms. The TourPanel fires before/after events allowing the host application to be automated as needed.

Let me give you a short update on this:

The tour panel feature is one of the most advanced integrations for such functionality around. Perfect for enterprise-scale line of business applications. Here are some of the use cases that we had in mind when designing this extension:

  • visual release notes (explain changes in the user interface interactively)
  • tutorials and step-by-step guides to replace or extend documentation and help files
  • interactive software documentation – F1 button explains the concepts directly inside the current screen
  • software demonstrations to improve your sales cycle – instead of relying on personal presentations and webinars only, you can show core features interactively, giving your customers a hands-on guided walkthrough upfront for your web application

Everyone dislikes manuals and written documentation. Wisej allows you to extend your applications with cool interactivity, fully integrated and very easy to use. The following screencast demonstrates the feature: https://www.screencast.com/t/ZfyEkU1K

I like the Shepherd library – will turn it into an extension. A component that can be dropped on any container, can create tours, start/stop, receive events, and select controls in the steps of the tour. It’s going to be cool.
