Datagridview not expanding/contracting auto

The attached gif shows how the datagridview with one column that is set to fill for both columns and rows does not expand or contract automatically.

What might i be doing wrong here pls?

for be shure, Are you using the datagrid property AutoSizeColumnsMode seted to Fill?

    Yes Paul. The grid has just one column and i have set the AutoSizeColumnsMode to Fill and the AutoSizeRowsMode to All Cells.

    Please attach a small runnable project that shows the problem. We cannot rebuild your code from an animated gif and guess it from a comment.
