Any plans for cross platform support such as Linux, Mac and mobile platforms such as Android, iOS, Smart TV applications support ?

Hi,

I am a fan of Wisej for its ease, simplicity and flexibility. I am enjoying developing with it 🙂 I would be happy to write about our use cases soon.

Meanwhile, I thought to check up with you if you have any plans for cross platform support such as Linux, Mac and mobile platforms such as Android,  iOS, Smart TV applications support in the near future? This would enable the developers to ‘write the code once’ and target build for all platforms 🙂  This could attract lots of developers and businesses to Wisej!

In the long run this could help evolve Wisej as a standard development platform unlike short lived Visual WebGUI. In addition to the cross platform support, if the WASM (WebAssembly) interop support is added to Wisej, it could attract more developers who are currently using Xamarin XAML, CSHTML5, Cordova, React – React Native, Avalonia, Noesis Engine, Silverlight etc.

Infact, the wisej is very easy to design and code as we don’t need to worry about the underlying css or javascripts. Developing in wisej seems nearly 60% faster than writing the code in any of the above tools and systems.

As a developer as well as an entrepreneur(founder of the startup https://thulya.com) , I would be happy to hear your plans for cross platform support ? 🙂

Thanks and regards,
Diwakar

Hi Diwakar. I am also interested to see Ice Tea’s thoughts on this. However, I am not sure that with the base using .Net framework it is possible. But once .Net core is better fledged, the possibly something that works with the WASM & Mono may be an option. I am working a lot with the experimental Blazor stuff (MVC Razor + .Net core + WASM) that is putting C# .Net on the client. My biggest issue with most of these options is that we put too much in client/browser control, and expose far too much info. VWG and WiseJ, mostly are “empty shell” scenarios, with very little exposed to the client/browser itself. Its worth remembering that VWG was NEVER broken from a security perspective (nothing EVER happened at browser level, all logic at server based on where/how user behaved). Thats my 40c worth (SA exchange rates are rough :D )

PS: If I had my way we would go back to a Dumb Client (eg: Terminals only). :D :D :D

To update this thread. Wisej 3 beta is out. Wisej is running on .NET 5 and .NET 6 on Windows, Linux, MacOS. We also have it running on small devices and controllers like a Raspberry Pi and smaller industrial controllers.

The public Wisej 3 beta will start soon.

To update this thread:

– We have now Wisej running on Linux and MacOS (it’s 3.0 and it’s on schedule)

– Wisej is also running on a Raspberry Pi 4 with 4GB and plenty of memory to spare!

Hi Diwakar Padmaraju,

As Luca said

For the server side we are going for mono (Linux and MacOS) next year and then for .NET Core.

So you can not do it until next year…

Thank you, Tiago. That will be great. Will look forward for it. Best regards.

Thank you for your reply @Luca . I have a Wisej OWIN self hosted service which uses Wisej web forms for display(based on Wisej OWIN Self Hosted Service). It works fine in Windows. Could you pl give some references or notes on how to build and deploy it in Linux and MacOS?

On the client side we have run Wisej applications using an Amazon Fire Stick. For the server side we don’t plan to run a Wisej server on a Smart TV. The client yes, it already works. For the server side we are going for mono (Linux and MacOS) next year and then for .NET Core. Remember that Wisej is built primarily for business web applications.
